I'm incredibly grateful that Slow Clay was my start into learning pottery in Melbourne. It's a wonderful learning atmosphere, where everything is provided: enthusiasm, experienced teachers, clay, wheels, tools, advice, glazes, firing, and a clean, safe environment. Pottery classes in Melbourne tend to book out super fast - so would highly recommend that you get in early on these ones!
This is my second term of Slow Clay classes, first time I managed to squeeze into a hand building class with Pilar who was amazing, however I think the free-form method was not as suited to me as I'm lacking in the creativity/ deciding what to make department. This time I was in Grace's beginner wheel class and again, found her to be a lovely and a (very) patient teacher. I've really enjoyed learning the 'on the hump' method of wheel that Slow Clay teaches and have already seen some progress in my technique even in the short time I've attended. I also appreciated having a technique to learn and develop over the term, I find it easier to learn this way. One other thing that helps is being able to see the other students and their progress. Even though it can begin as frustrating as I may not progress as fast, it's really nice to see what others are making and know that I can take my time in the course as everyone works to their own pace.
Needless to say -I've signed up for next term and can't wait to learn and progress even more.
This was my first even turn at the potters' wheel, and it was AMAZING. Grace (@ohheygrace) is a brilliant, passionate teacher and I loved every moment of my classes with her. The classes are capped at 12 students, so there is plenty of one-on-one time, and you quickly feel like you're part of the Slow Clay family. It will be the highlight of your week, I promise!
